Kristen Corning Bedford has a diverse educational and professional background, encompassing the arts, philanthropy and community engagement. Most recently, as Vice President of Community Philanthropy at the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, Kristen managed over $2.6 million in grants and developed opportunities for community collaboration and donor investment. While at the Community Foundation Kristen launched and facilitated the Youth Against Violence initiative, redesigned the grant-making process to address systemic issues in Pierce County, and began a citywide conversation about the sustainability of nonprofit arts programming in the schools.
Kristen’s experience in philanthropy began in 2002 when she co-founded the Ruby Room, a Seattle nonprofit, for which she received the Outstanding Community Leader Award from the Northwest Girls Coalition. Before she entered the not-for-profit sector, Kristen was an Associate Marketing Manager for the Walt Disney Internet Group, developing and implementing strategies for growth for their entertainment websites, which included the launch of Movies.com. Kristen graduated with a B.A. in Film Studies & Video Production from Western Washington University and holds an M.A. in Whole Systems Design from Antioch University. She is currently enjoying time with her two sons while pursuing opportunities outside of the workplace to invest in her community.
