Julia Garnett is the Strategic Director of Tacoma 360, a new community initiative to align and strengthen Tacoma’s school and community resources to boost student success. For four years she served as the Corporate Giving Manager for Russell Investments, a global financial services company headquartered in Tacoma, managing grants and other community investment strategies. Prior to that she was the Director of the Cultural Council of Greater Tacoma from its inception in 1994 through October, 2005. She is especially proud of the Council’s leadership in arts education, including founding the Arts Impact program, recognized as a national model by the US Department of Education. In her 25-year arts career she held just about every performing arts job from running the light board to directing plays, and conducted marketing and fund-raising for such organizations as Artist Trust, the Seattle Art Museum, Meany Hall, Shakespeare/Santa Cruz, and the Tandy Beal Dance Company. Born and raised in the South, she holds a BA from Duke University, and an MFA in Theater Directing from the University of Washington.
