The National Endowment for the Arts recently released a new report that measures the value of the arts in three ways: time spent on arts activities, organizational revenue and expenses, and direct consumer spending. Key findings of Time and Money: Using Federal Data to Measure the Value of Performing Arts Activities include:
- The U.S. performing arts industry is supported by nearly 8,840 organizations with a total of 127,648 paid workers
- Arts organizations generate nearly $13.6 billion in annual revenues
- On average, 1.5 million Americans attend arts performance on any given day
