Principals Arts Leadership Program Featured in National Teleconference

In Spring 2012, Executive Director Una McAlinden, along with Principals Arts Leadership (PAL) Program Alumni Laura Ploudré and Doug Poage, were featured in a panel during a national teleconference hosted by the Support Music Coalition – led by the  National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).

Their discussion, “Principals Take the Lead with Arts Education Planning”, took place during the National Association of School Music Dealers Conference, and was broadcast to participants across the country.

Listen to the teleconference* (see instructions below) to learn more about PAL, and to hear how the program has sustainably impacted local schools.

Follow along with a transcript of the conversation.  Read the companion article, FOCUS ON STUDENTS: Empowering Principals as School Arts Leaders is Key Strategy for Student Success, as well!

*The PAL section of the panel begins approximately 23 minutes into the discussion.  Scroll the cursor near the middle of the track.

“The arts can open pathways of learning and encourage confidence in children. One of our fourth grade students has been visibly touched by the arts. She started the year hesitant to make new friends – uncomfortable to share orally with her class. Through her exposure to the arts, she smiles during dance activities and is starting to speak to adults – expressively.”
