School’s Out, Advocacy Continues!

Congratulations to the Americans for the Arts’ Arts Education Council, whose advocacy efforts succeeded in restoring funds to the San Diego Unified School District’s Visual and Performing Arts Department.  On June 21, their relationship building and continued advocacy efforts led to a unanimous vote by the board of education that ensured full funding to arts education programs for the 2011-2012 school year, and secured 35 arts educators positions within the district.  Well done!  Read more about their efforts in ARTSblog, and connect with your school board to advocate for the arts in your district.

“Through the PAL program, our teachers have taken a leadership role in advancing the integration of arts in our school community. This has had a significant impact on student engagement in their classrooms, in the climate of the school in general, and, in their personal feeling of efficacy as teachers to meet the needs of all students.”
