School’s Out, Advocacy Continues!

Congratulations to the Americans for the Arts’ Arts Education Council, whose advocacy efforts succeeded in restoring funds to the San Diego Unified School District’s Visual and Performing Arts Department.  On June 21, their relationship building and continued advocacy efforts led to a unanimous vote by the board of education that ensured full funding to arts education programs for the 2011-2012 school year, and secured 35 arts educators positions within the district.  Well done!  Read more about their efforts in ARTSblog, and connect with your school board to advocate for the arts in your district.

“Parents are increasingly able to articulate the benefits of the arts for their children. They see ways that the arts enhance their learning of academic subjects. They see the development of skills such as persistence, preparation and presentation. And, importantly, they see them developing a love of the arts!”
