Arts & Heritage Day
February 6, 2013
Arts & Heritage Day is February 6 in Olympia, WA. Join ArtsEd Washington staff and Board of Directors, along with other arts advocates around the state, to meet with legislators and talk about arts and heritage issues in the current legislative session, and the cultural concerns in our communities and schools. The key way the legislature can impact the provision of arts in our schools is by funding basic education. The McCleary decision last January has now been reinforced by the Supreme Court and funding basic education – the state’s paramount duty – is a significant agenda item this session. As you know, the arts are part of basic education as defined by Washington state law. Refresh yourself on our arts education talking points, and join us on this day of advocacy at the Capitol!
In addition to the scheduled meetings with legislators there will be a reception the evening before (Feb. 5th) at the State Capitol Museum, and a luncheon and reception in the afternoon during Arts & Heritage Day. This year the Washington State Historical Society is also hosting their 2013 Heritage Conference: The Art of Heritage in the days leading up to Arts & Heritage Day.
